What really makes a Columbus dinner date great?

What makes a Columbus, Ohio dinner-date great? Is it the venue (such as G. Michael's, Alana's, Due Amici, Banana Bean Cafe, The Top Steakhouse, Barcelona, The Refectory, M at Miranova, Mitchell's, The Yard Club, or even My Big Fat Greek Cuisina) or that "special someone" you're dining with? When we surveyed multiple DownToEarth.com members, ninety eight percent in Franklin County say that the more important thing is not WHERE to dine, but WHO they are dining with!

Why is okay to eat a big ole burger at Max & Erma's in Dublin or Otie's Restaurant and Bar in Hilliard as long as you've got your cutie with you? Experts suggest it's because being "flashy" or "materialistic" is no longer vogue. Experts consulted in the Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff, the University District, Harrison West, North Linden, North Central, Whitehall, Bexley, German Village, The Brewery District, Briggsdale, Hilltop, Lincoln Village, Valleyview, Clintonville, and Upper Arlington areas of Columbus agree that the key element to a great date is feeling comfortable! "Flashy five-star dinner dates are so 1983," explains Rhonda Britten, author of Fearless Loving and a life coach on NBC's award-winning tv show, starting Over. "These days, no guy wants to look like he's trying so hard, and no woman wants to look so high-maintenance, nor, for that matter, spend an hour-and-a-half getting ready. People don't want to 'perform' in their personal lives. It's just too much work."

A more modern-day approach to dating in the 43210 is to SAVE YOUR CASH and FOCUS ON GETTING TO KNOW THE REAL PERSON. Spend time just kickin' it at cool places like Skully's, Sugar Bar, North Market, or even the Southland Mall or Easton Town Center. Spend effort (not money) getting to know your date's personality and mate potential over a great cup of coffee at one of the following great Columbus shops: Crimson Cup Coffee in Clintonville, Collin's Coffee in Upper Arlington, Cup o' Joe Lennox in the University Distrtict, Staul's Coffee Roasters or Luck Bros' Coffee in Grandview Heights, Cafe Brioso in downtown Columbus, The Kickstart in Short North, Cafe Apropos in Harrison West, Cup o' Joe or the German Village Coffee Shop both in German Village. "Unfortunately, people today don't want to waste their time on someone if there isn't an immediate connection," says Britten. "In the past, Columbus Ohio singles would go on a few dates before giving up. Today, if they're not feeling it from the outset, it's over."

Columbus Women NOT to Miss This Year--Those To Be Sure To Avoid!

Lisa, a single-and-looking in Franklin County has found herself to be pretty 'popular' lately!

Past boyfriends are contacting her, and new new guys call her all the time, too! She even has male co-workers who always want to be by her side, too!

Why is Lisa in such high demand? Lisa has the 411. Lisa is a librarian in the University District near Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. "With the current economy, everyone realizes how much access to information can help them weather any storms," she says. Lisa says her popularity is because men (and women) realize she has the tools necessary to get them the help they need with any questions they may have. "I can get them around Columbus to the information they need." Everyone seems to want to be around Lisa! "My social life has picked up, that's for sure," she claims.

"Lisa is the sort of person that you always feel good about being around," says John, a single financial analyst who lives in King-Lincoln, Columbus. "Lisa doesn't act like a know-it-all, but she DOES know how to find answers in this area of Ohio. Not only that, because she has a wide breadth of knowledge on various topics, she's an extremely engaging woman to spend time with."

Converesely, however, you don't want to meet another single woman by the name of Laura, a budget director for a large corporation in the 43230 zip code of Columbus . "I've had to cut a lot of jobs this past year and I've slashed a lot of budgets," she says. With all of her job-induced frustrations, Laura is not always pleasant to spend time with. "My date with Laura was about as much fun as a shareholder's meeting," says Brad, a single-and-looking CPA who resides in the Dublin area of metro-Columbus. "While I'm sure she's a nice person underneath, it appears her current occupation has left her coming across as overly business-like, calculating and cold. She just wasn't easy to be around, and I found myself counting the minutes until I could politely excuse myself and say goodnight."

Lisa and Laura, both attractive professionals in the Columbus singles scene, exemplify some of the choices men face as far as potential dates this year. One can clearly see that there are both women you can't afford to miss, in Ohio, and some you will most likely want to avoid.

OTHER GREAT COLUMBUS, OH SINGLE WOMEN YOU WON'T WANT TO MISS:

The Teacher over by Olde Town East
Although teachers are widely known to be underpaid, oftentimes, teachers DO get a lot of satisfaction in what they do. Loving what you do makes any woman a happy person and a wonderful dating match. "When you truly enjoy what you do all day, every day, you're not a needy person when you go out to the clubs at night," says Judy, an 2nd grade elementary school teacher.

The Vixen
This hot, single, and foxy lady is the perfect kind of date in this stressful economy. Bridget, who resides in the Upper Arlington section of Columbus explains, "Everyone is wound too tight lately." A self-proclaimed vixen, she says she takes her role seriously. "I like to unbutton them and see what happens! Everyone needs to let loose a little!"

The Scientist at Ohio State University
Not only does Amanda like to experiment, but she also realizes that the brain is her sexiest organ. Her methodical and logical personality makes her a stimulating conversationalist, which often results in intellectual foreplay. Amanda explains, "You would be surprised at how turned on some guys get by talking about the way things work. What might start out as an intellectual conversation, often turns into flirting. Guys dig a smart lady who isn't afraid to do some of her own 'experimental research'."

SOME COLUMBUS OHIO WOMEN YOU MIGHT WANT TO WATCH OUT FOR:

The Nurse
Again, in large part due to the economy, nurses continue to be overworked and under-valued. Maria is a Registered Nurse who works in the ER at Ohio State University Hospital East near the New Rome area. While nurses generally tend toward having a large capacity for love and caring, right now they are so overloaded that it's all they can do just to take care of the basics with their patients. Because so many Americans are without health insurance (and the number seems to continually increase as more and more lay-offs occur), the Emergency Room is often packed to full capacity. Maria's 12-14 hour shifts leave her feeling exhausted and frustrated with the lack of proper health care so many Columbus residents face. Maria laments that by the time she gets home and even CONSIDERS dating, she is too discouraged and depressed to be any kind of "good" date.

The Girl Next Door
Although as American as apple pie, this girl-next-door in Westerville (zip code 43801) is stuck in the suburbs. She is too busy carpooling and mowing the lawn to actual get out and DO things. "It's been SOOOOO long since I met up with any cool singles," says Shannon. I love my home, but there's always so much to do around home, that I don't often go out to meet people." There's nothing wrong with dating a suburbanite, but just be careful. If you're not ready to coast on over to the "slow lane" of life, you may not want to go this route.

The Britney Wanna-Be
Even though Britney Spears wasn't born in fabulous Columbus, Ohio, it seems that there are many young singles who emulate her. While walking around any mall in Columbus (whether it be Westland Mall, Eastland Mall, the Mall at Tuttle Crossing, Pak Mall, etc.) you're bound to see quite a few ladies imitating Britney's entitlement and promiscuity. Nowadays, though, singles in Columbus can't afford to have such casual encounters with promiscuous partners. With so many diseases running amok, one has to be extremely careful in selecting a date and/or a mate. While there's nothing wrong with dating a hot and beautiful single, be sure you know what you're getting into and to always use precaution! Remember, too, that relationships are built on trust. Make sure you trust the person you are dating.
