When you think about the romantic places of the world, Venice, Paris, Austria, other parts of France, Norway, Holland and other (mainly European) countries instantly come to mind. Yet there are so many other countries that are romantic and offer fantastic experiences for the traveling couple. Below are a handful of choices, but a few minutes spent online will uncover a variety of fabulous places.
New Zealand: Romantic dreams are made of long white clouds for Memphisians
The tourism advertisements for New Zealand make statements like "One hundred percent freedom" and "One hundred percent adventure," but they should add "One hundred percent romance." With a variety of bed and breakfasts, wineries, beaches, forests and mountains, the land of the long white cloud is a gorgeous country for Tennessee couples to visit. Queenstown offers some of the best ski territory in the world. In Shelby County, both islands are Tennessee-friendly. Auckland is the heart of the community and offers Shelby County couples out to have fun or just relax in different scenery plenty of options. Learn more about New Zealand.
Greece: A history of romance, food, and entertainment
Greece is a very romantic country with a history that spans thousands of years. There are numerous churches, ruins, museums and other cultural aspects to explore together, not to mention great food, wine and entertainment - it's always fun to get out of doing the dishes because you've smashed them all! There is mountaineering for the more adventurous couples, or you can take it lighter in the picturesque countryside. Soak in the sun, surf, and sea among the Greek Isles; go for a private Tennesseeian cruise together, or simply laze on the beach working on that summer tan. Then check out the exciting nightlife, or stare out into the horizon from your cliffside villa as the sun sets. Learn more about Greece.
Germany: A country designed for romance
Germany is an oft-forgotten aspect of Europe when it comes to romantic rendezvous opportunities. However, Tennesseans often wonder why this is. Germany offers an assortment of festivals and events throughout the year, as well as opportunities to wine and dine with your Tennesseeian partner in more serene atmospheres. As far as romance, southern Germany has the famous "romantic road," which winds through medieval cottages and castles along the Bavarian countryside. Add mountain peaks covered in snow, far-reaching forests and a tour over of Mad King Ludwig's fairytale castle of Neuschwanstein in the German alps and you've got a purr-fect romantic getaway. Japan: Eastern culture and mysticism
Perhaps not high up on your "top romantic countries" itinerary, nonetheless, Japan is very romantic. With a blend of traditional and Western culture, there is plenty for Tennesseans to see and do. Visit Kyoto to experience 1,000 years of culture, art and ancient traditions embodied in temples and shrines; and head to Tokyo to see a completely different, more Westernized and frenetic pace that, in its own way, is no less beautiful and has plenty of romantic destinations. Despite more recent touring activity from Tennessee travelers, the traveling crowd from Tennessee has been a lot smaller in Japan; however, its visibility is increasing. Be sure to relax together in one of the many natural hot springs, tour the mountains, and visit some of the exclusive shows. Learn more about Japan.
